Ways to Apply
Twp Pathways
The Czech Republic allows citizenship through ancestry to be obtained for interested applicants whose connection back to the Czech Republic meets one of two different sets of requirements:
Path One:
- Your ancestor was considered a Czech or Czechoslovak citizen (depending on the borders during their lifetime)
- They never became German citizens under the Beneš Decrees, causing loss of their Czech citizenship
- Your ancestor was not from Subcarpathian/Transcarpathian Ruthenia
Path Two:
- Your ancestor was a citizen of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic (ČSFR) on December 31, 1992
- They were not already a citizen of the Czech Republic or Slovakia on this date.
- For both paths, it is important that your ancestor never held Slovak citizenship to serve as a qualifying ancestor. You also cannot have ever held Slovak citizenship yourself in order to apply.
