Introduction
Since February 15, 2026, Citizenship.EU has offered a free Eligibility Assessment Tool. This tool helps interested individuals determine if they have a possible path to EU citizenship through ancestry across our 25+ supported countries.
By indicating their ancestor’s country of birth and generations removed, our automated eligibility tool asks the user between 3-4 questions, specific to their ancestor’s country, to determine if they may serve as a qualifying basis to apply for citizenship through ancestry. The eligibility categories are as follows:

Likely eligible to apply, ready to confirm eligibility with an expert.
Needs Documentation
Additional research or review must be carried out to make determination.
Not Eligible
Eligibility not possible based on answers to exam questions provided.
Who Are Our Users, and Are They Eligible?
Free and paid users alike receive unlimited access to our Eligibility Assessment tool, with many of our users submitting multiple ancestors for analysis. The following data represents the number of total submissions received to date, as well as data about submissions in the last month.
Consistently over 50% of submissions made by users indicate likely eligibility to apply for citizenship through ancestry, or that additional research needs to be carried out to make an eligibility determination. The most common cause for ancestors not being qualifying is strict generation removed limits imposed by the country of origin, or other historical factors not being met.
